30 Years of Bagels on South Whidbey

The South Whidbey bagel shop was started back in 1996 by a local Whidbey family - the Kitchellii family.

In September of 2015 the shop was purchased by John Auburn. John is an outstanding baker and an experienced restaurateur. John created lots of new recipes for the bagels and cream cheeses. He also brought together a sandwich menu that combines quality ingredients with his inspired bagel recipes.

John expanded the bagel business to two additional locations: Mt Vernon and Oak Harbor.

COVID was a brutal time for the restaurant industry. Due to the restrictions, John came up with a creative way to remain open - by reducing the operating hours to weekends and building a way to server people using windows for walk-up sidewalk service.

When Clint Hatton joined the bagel team in April of 2023 COVID was no longer the inhibitor to business it once was. However, the Clinton shop was still only open to the public on weekends. During the week the shop was busy providing wholesale bagels to local grocers, coffee shops and restaurants.

John was busily working to reopen a location in Oak Harbor, but in 2024 the Clinton location was able to expand operations to be open 4 days a week. A few months later – on January 1, 2025 - the shop returned to being open 7 days a week.

In September of 2025 the Clinton Washington location was purchased by Clint Hatton. Clint worked at the bagel shop prior to the acquisition - learning the recipes, techniques, the staff, the customers, and the business. Clint hopes to continue bringing fresh food inspiration to the menu, solid business operations to the shop, and a whole lot of delicious fun to our community!
